The Toy Manchester Terrier is a most attractive, affectionate and game little dog, marvellously intuitive and loyal, but tending to attach itself to one person to the exclusion of others. It is usually healthy, easy to keep clean, odourless and an easy whelper if you wish to breed. In the United States it is called the Toy Manchester Terrier being considered a variety of the Manchester Terrier

The Toy Manchester Terrier is a smaller version of the Manchester Terrier, once a prodigious ratter and descended from the old Black and Tan Rough­haired Terrier,Toy Manchester Terrier's fitness owes something to the Italian Greyhound and the Whippe( The breed began in England under the name Toy Manchester Terrier, and was later known variously as Toy Black and Tan and Miniature Black and Tan. It was recognized as the Toy Manchester Terrier (Black and Tan) by the Kennel Club in 1962.

Size

The ideal weight is 6-81b (2.7-3.6kg), and a height of 10-12in (25-30cm) at the shoulders is most desirable.

General appearance
A well­balanced, elegant and compact toy with terrier's Jmperament and characteristics.

Colour
Black and tan: the black should be ebony and the tan can be likened to a new chestnut, deeply rich. These colours should not run or blend into each other, but should meet abruptly, forming clear and well-defined lines of colour division.

Head and skull
The head should be long and narrow with a flat skull, wedge-shaped without emphasis of cheek muscles and well filled up under the eyes,

Body
Moderately short with robust loins and well-sprung ribs, The back, which is slightly arched at the loins, falls again towards the tail. The height at the tail is the same as the height at the shoulder. Forelegs straight and well under the body. Hindlegs carried back.

Tail
The tail should be thick at the root, tapering to a point, set low and not reaching below the hock, A gay tail carriage is undesirable if displayed to excess.

Feet
Dainty, compact, split up between the toes and well arched, with jet black nails; the two middle toes of the front feet are rather longer than the others, and the hind feet are cat-like.

Grooming

Occasional brushing will suffice, One of the advantages of this short­coated breed is that it does not shed, The coat can be massaged to effect a sheen; or equally beneficial is a weekly teaspoonful of cod liver oil in the food. Dry the coat with a towel after excursions on rainy days. Although the breed is robust it will, in common with most toy breeds, appreciate a warm coat in bitter weather.

Feeding

Recommended would be 5-70z (142-198g) of a branded, meaty product, with biscuit added in equal part by volume, or 1 cup of a dry food, complete diet, mixed in the proportion of 1 cup of feed to '/2 cup of hot or cold water, The owner may occasionally substitute lightly cooked minced beef, mixed with biscuit. Water must be available to all breeds at all times.
