Swedish Vallhund

The Vallhund or Vastgotaspets is a Swedish breed, similar in appearance to the Welsh Corgi. It is an active, intelligent worker and is rapidly gaining popularity in many parts of the world.

The Vallhund closely resembles the Welsh Corgi in appearance. It was developed in Sweden as a fine cattle dog.

Origin and history

The Vastgotaspets, to give it its Swedish name, looks something like a Cardigan/Pembroke Corgi cross. There is certainly a connection between the Corgi and this attractive breed, but it is impossible to determine whether it evolved as the result of Vikings taking Corgis to Sweden or if Swedish dogs brought to Britain developed the Corgi. The Swedes certainly claim credit for this fine little cattle dog, which owes its present development and recognition to Bjorn von Rosen.
