Norrbotten SpitzThe Norrbotten Spitz is named after Norrbotten, the northern region of Sweden from which it originates. It is Sweden's answer to the Finnish Spitz and the Norwegian Buhund, though smaller and lighter. It makes an excellent companion, house-dog and farmyard protector. Origin and history The Norrbotten Spitz is little known outside Sweden. It was declared extinct by the Swedish Kennel Club in 1948. Luckily this proved to be untrue, and there was an upsurge of interest in the 1960s, resulting in sufficient registrations for the breed to become re-established. Its Spitz origin probably derives from Finnish Spitz or Norwegian Buhund ancestry. The Norrbotten Spitz is not yet recognized in either the United Kingdom or the USA.
